Welcome to World History
Welcome to the study of World History. I believe you will enjoy your time in this class and in this discipline. We have an exciting year planned for you. During it you will learn about important concepts in the study of history. It is not about memorizing dates and names of old, dead guys. It is about understanding who we are, how we got where we are and why we do the things that we do. Of course, it is also about debate and discourse on important people, ideas and events, and what makes those more important than any of the others of the same. At the end of this course we are seeking to have improved your critical thinking skills, your ability to express that, and to have enhanced your appreciation of this significant discipline in the study of human experience and knowledge. To this end, "The study of history", as one of my former colleagues, and teacher once said, "helps make us more human."
